Effect of pH on the flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L. seed) mucilage extraction process

Water-soluble mucilage extracted from flaxseed has excellent hydrocolloid potential in gel formation; moreover, it can become a product of high technological value the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries because viscosity aqueous solution. The aim current study is to investigate effect extraction medium pH on yield soluble fiber content. In addition, purification step was evaluated through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Extractions were carried out at 3 different values (3.81, 6.75 9.69) for 13.25 h 45 oC. highest recorded 6.75; content found 3.81. It possible seeing that macromolecules basic (pH presented best quality comparison other extractions. based precipitation with ethanol did not fully remove impurities samples.
